George Hurst - Query

Hi,

I am trying to trace any information in relation to my GG Grandfather "George Hurst".

Info I Have:
George was Born in Fermanagh, Ireland approx. 1838. Sometime before 1865 he came to Australia (where he married Elizabeth Livingston(e) / Levingston also from Fermanagh).

Is any one able to help or give me some advise how to back trace my/his family. Any tips or info would greatly be appreciated.

What information is on his marriage and death certificates? To search for information in Ireland you will need to know the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland not just the county). Civil registration of births started in 1864 so you need to check church records (if they exist).

The info I have about George Hurst and his family from his marriage & death certicifates is:

Married 1865 @ St Andrews Church of England - Sydney to "Elizabeth Livingston".

Died 1910 (Age 72)- Father James Hurst & Mother Mabel Aiken
Religion: Church of England.
Born: Fermangah Ireland.
Time in Colony/State: 46 Years.
Age at marriage 30 - spouse Elizabeth Livingstone.

NB: on their eldest sons Birth Certificate It note Elizabeths Surname as "Levingston"

Becasue his birth is before civil registration I now understand from your reply that I would need to church records (if they exist). I am in Australia. How would I know where to begin to search & how?

You still need to know where in County Fermanagh the family lived before you can start checking church records.
