Have Eastern Necropolis MIs been transcribed?
« on: Saturday 19 July 08 21:15 BST (UK) »

Greetings all: I'm wondering if there are published MIs for Glasgow's Eastern Necropolis. (I've also seen it referred to as Callowgate and Parkhead. Is that correct?)

My maternal 3x- great grandfather William Meikle (also Mickle or Muckle) has been resting there since 1853. I realize that the Glasgow Council's cemeteries department might have something, but as I live far beyond the Atlantic Ocean, I'd have to pay high fees probably and wait interminably long for a reply.

Thanks in advance for help or advice.

Regards,

I'm sure the Mitchell library in Glasgow has the MI's for the Eastern.

Hi Capricorn. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll e-mail the Mitchell and ask!

Hi John,
I'd be interested to know the result.
Would you be good enough to let us know on this post.
Thanks

Hi Dave: I will certainly post what happens. I seem to recall e-mailing the Mitchell some time ago, and waiting several weeks for a reply. If you have any advice for other avenues that I might pursue for finding William Meikle's burial, I'd be grateful for it.

I live in Glasgow and have a list of larger cemeteries that I intend to visit and an even larger number of names that I will be looking out for when I go - The Eastern Nec is only 3 miles from where I live and is on my list.

My problem is that I am very disorganised when it comes to making trips like this - I've been promising some visits since October but laziness and poor weather have prevented me from keeping promisies.

I have had some success and posted a few photos for other Rootschatters.

Meilke is now on my list but don't hold your breath waiting. Grin

I also keep meaning to go to the Mitchell but that is another thing I've put off - might go this week.
