Hayes / Waters
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 04:50 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for any information on Francis Thomas Hayes (c.1842-1918) and his wife Frances Ellen Hayes nee Waters (c.1851-1926)who lived in Limerick in the 1870's. They had 5 children in Limerick - Lucinda Esther (1872-1947), Harriet S (1874-1895), Francis Richard - my grandfather (1875-1945), Alice Maud Wyndham (1876-1957), and John Brunker (1880-1957). I know that Frances and the children were in London in 1881 preparing to emigrate to Sydney, Australia, which they did in about 1883-1885.

I believe that Francis Thomas Hayes, a draper in Limerick, was born in Co. Cavan to parents Jeremiah Hayes and Esther Hayes nee Darling, and Frances Ellen Hayes was born in Dublin to parents Richard Fredrick Waters and Lucinda Waters nee Walshe.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Drew Hayes, Melbourne, Oz

Thanks for the information. I have no record of a Thomas Hayes in the 1881 England Census, in London preparing to emigrate. Perhaps Thomas Hayes did die shortly after birth. How did you locate this information ? I have looked on http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com and there are 3 births and 2 baptisms for a Thomas Hayes in Limerick in 1879. It will cost me up to 25 Euros for me to locate the correct record, due to limited search options and limited returned search results.

Thanks, Drew Hayes

To order a death certificate you need to have an idea when and where he died (could be Ireland or England).

Some Australian death certificates list children (not sure if living children or all children)?

Thanks Mary. I did know the details of the marriage of Richard Fredrick Waters and Lucinda Walshe, but I did not have the details of the fathers' names. Drew.

Drew - I have just read your original message with great interest.  I am working on the family tree of my maternal forebears who bear the name Brunker.  My great-grandfather Thomas Brunker of Dublin, married a Lucinda Waters, about whose origins I know nothing.  She was a near contemporary of Frances Ellen (Lucinda was born c1855) and I am wondering whether they might be sisters.  They produced a number of children, one of whom was my grandmother Victoria Alice, and another of whom coincidentally was a Lucinda E (maybe the E was another Esther - I don't know yet).  The fact that you have on your tree a John Brunker Hayes seems a bit odd and I wonder where he got that name!  Any ideas?

Mike - your information sounds very intriguing. No one I have spoken to knows where the name "Brunker" came from in the name John Brunker Hayes. It seemed obvious to me that it was a surname from somewhere. However, the information above is all I have, except I now know that Richard Fredrick Waters' father's name was also Richard, and Lucinda Waters nee Walshe's father's name was James Walshe. I would be interested in more information about your Brunker / Waters family.

Thanks, Drew - (*)
