Is this the correct 1851 entry as you don't give any details of ages or of the childrens names

Daniel McNeill 38
Mary 38
William   16
Daniel  14
James  12
Jane  10
Matilda   7
Rachael 6
Mary  2  b Glasgow

if it is the right entry - Daniel & Mary plus the first 6 children were all b Ireland so must have married there
Looking at Rachael's age of 6 and youngest child age 2 b Lanarkshire - they only came to Scotland between 1844-1848

A copy of daughter Mary's birth entry should give you her mothers maiden name

You should be able to find the family on the 1861 and Mary up to 1891 now.

When was son John born?

It looks as if you might be lucky. On the 1861, son John was aged 6. If he was born 1855, you'll get lots of details of his parents marriage, origins, etc.
