2nd request for Arthur Charles Turner please
« on: Monday 21 July 08 06:01 BST (UK) »

the first time i asked for help for this person it resulted in no helpful results so hoping i can get soemwhere this time.
Arthur Charles Turner was born in Colchester 1886 to Jesse Turner and Edith Lucking. Jesse was in the army and stationed at Colchester at the time but came from Beds/ Bucks family area. the rest of his kids were born all over the place but the last were born back in Beds where he started from.
i have all of Jesses life and am in touch with his descendent.
Jesse emigrated to Canada in 1908 when dismissed from the army but his son Arthur didnt go. Their descendent says no one knows what became of him. the closest marriage i can find is to Kate Owen in Hampstead 1906. its the only one for an Arthur Charles Turner that is outside of the London area. there are quite a few others but they are all London based.
looking up Turner/Owen children produces tons all over the place so i cant decide which of them are the children of this particular marriage,
can anyone help.
the descendent has asked me twice now for help to find Arthur. he is keen to contact relatives.

Could Arthur have died young? Have you looked for a death record as well as a marriage record? Will do some searching to see if I can find anything.

the reason i had to post this request twice was because the first one was ignored by everyone except for unhelpful comments. everyone who has ever spoken to me on here knows i dont have any money so buying certs is out of the question.
i dont think either, that he died young. as far as i know he was alive when the others left for Canada.
he was in the census reports up til then as far as i can make out.
its just he was an adult by the time his family left.
being born in Colchester when the rest of his family was either born in Beds, or India must have made him stand out.

He may have married as just plain Arthur  Turner . Also he could have moved anywhere once his family left the country.

  Unhelpful maybe BUT true.

Some times we read the post but do not reply because we simply cannot help. As David says sometimes buying the cert is the only way forward. YES it can be expensive so why not ask the decendant to by the cert. I have helped friends with their trees for nothing but they buy the certs. If he is that keen to find relatives.

Also as David's reply was the only one I also find the comment rude.

Kas

I have to agree with Tazzie, sometimes we read a post and spend 30 mins or more looking for an answer, but sometimes it just isn't there  Grin

The reason I linked the two together, was so people didn't post to both at the same time and valuable info would either be lost or duplicated if we mised it. Not everyone reads ALL the boards,so someone may reply to one but not the other and it may just be the chink we need to move you forward.

Turner is a very common surname ,and for the time span you are looking for ie after 1916 ish the GRO indexes do not show a second name, only initials.

Bedfordshire Boy tried his best to help, how can you say he was being unhelpful?

im sorry im just a little frustrated as i keep getting dead ends.

today i discovered 3 rootsweb lines that have our ancestor Charles Turner son of Bart going to US and marrying a Mary Zimmerman which is all the completely wrong info. he never wednt to US nor did his sisters Martha or Mary as stated in those lines. in fact Mary died in the Paddington poorhouse. the Charles they are referring to is in fact his nephew Charles Alfred. very frustrating. i couldnt contact the people involved and have had to do a post em additive.
hopefully someone will see it and get in contact so we can correct the info.

then 2 days ago i was playing with the Garners and discovered that Mingonette had a sister in law also called Mingonette. whats the chance of that. i wondered why the dates didnt add up. she would have had to be about 12 to have had her son. and that in fact her older brother William marreid a Mingonette Wooton. but then i had to leave it and i havnt been able to get back to it and finish untangling that web.

so forgive me ive had a very frustrating week.

Cry

oh plus yesterday i found that my mum is coming in a week and a half so i am running out of time. she has the chance of a free lift so is taking it. as she lives 100 miles form us.

Kas

Unfortunately Kas,that's what family history is all about-dead ends  Grin

I've been doing mine for about 15 years and still haven't got very far on a few of my lines.

I'm now retired and don't have a lot of money to spend, but certain certificates I just HAVEto buy to prove that I'm going back through the right line.In fact sometimes the info on a cert can provide just that one piece of proof you need to put the whole jigsaw together.

My maiden name was Rogers and there are just tooooo many of them out there.
I'm pinning all my hopes on the 1911 census and can't wait till Jan 2009.

well yes the good thing is him being born in Colchester will make him stand out and i agree that the 1911 census will hopefully end that problem. or maybe only increase it. ha ha.

we can wait.

shame on you Kas

We all have bad weeks and varying levels of budgets.

How dare you “abuse” the very people you are asking to help you for NOTHING.

It’s bad enough to do a lot of research for a stranger and not get even a “thank you” but to see comments like “the first one was ignored by everyone except for unhelpful comments” makes me wonder why we bother.

Just looking at the home page of the Buckinghamshire Board I see the are MANY posts started by you (with replies), so be grateful for all the FREE help you have received.

In actual fact you can see it wasn't ignored, as the number of times people have looked at each posting is at the top of the page

"Topic: help with arthur charles turner please  (Read 70 times) "

So that's 70 people who have looked an maybe half or even more have tried to help.

Something to think about there Kas.

i have apologised openly on air here and that should be the end of it. what do you want  grovelling cos i dont do that.

please except the apologies of a very frustrated stuck at home person who cant do anything but this all day.

i am always very grateful for all the help that people give on here and have had many happy conversations with many of you.

you have to realise i live in a village with no neighbours at all, no public transport and no transport of my own. i only have my hobbies, and my housework

the only time i get to see anyone or talk to anyone is if they visit me. or the one bus a week to town bus.
sometimes i think i lose the art of conversation and social skills.

Another idea -
Do you know when dad, Jesse died? getting a will might help give a clue as to what happened to son Arthur Charles.
