Do you have any ties with the Younie family from Rafford in Moray? Particularly a John Younie born 1818 who married Ellen Mavor and came to Canada in 1858?

Hi Jeff

I have this family in my database but as yet have not been able to link them into my main Younie/Riach lines which seem to go on forever and in all directions.

But I live in hopes that one day all the seperate families may just slip into place.  Well I can dream !

Morning Jess

Yes I know of the couple but as yet have not managed to link them in to the main Riach line.

There are so many Riach people of the same name and similar ages  you end up with lots of 'hangers on' -  there are a few families who I could link Elizabeth with but there is that element of doubt.      Undecided

But as usual will keep on plodding.

I was wondering if you have any connection with John Younie married Janet Chalmers in 1774 Knockando, Moray. I am descended from their eldest daughter Janet Younie who married John Black. I would love to fill in more information on this family. Roll Eyes

A match, although distant.

John Younie  is the great grand uncle of George Younie   Their common ancestors are George Younie.

The first George Younie mentioned is married to Helen Riach.  Helan and I being 3rd cousins 3 times removed.

Distant but still on the tree.

If I can fill any gaps, and visa versa let me know.

Hi Carol
Bascially all the information I have on the YOUNIE family are the children of John Younie and Janet nee CHALMERS (from IGI) as well as the descending line through Janet and John BLACK. I believe the father of John Younie was also a John, but I think you seem to have much more information on this family than I have.

As I am new to Rootschat, is there any way we can share information or is it all done through Rootschat.

My email address with the at changed to @ is Cherrytree at xtra.co.nz, and I would be happy to receive emails.

Sorry I don't have any information relating to Younie family from Rafford at this time. I wish you well in your hunt.
Mine all seem to be around the Knockando area at the moment not that can't change very quickly. My primary family is the Black family from this area.

My aplogies for not writing sooner, not been on and checked for a while.   Embarrassed

Chalmers / Younie

John Younie and Janet Chalmers are in my tree via the marriage of a George Younie and Helen Riach in 1879.

John & Janet being the the great grand uncle and aunt of George Younie b 1850.

The link is

George Younie 1850
James Younie 1814
George Younie 1785
Alexander Younie 1761 **
George Younie 1723
(**George being a poss father for Alexander)

or James Younie 1814 could have George Younie & Margaret Findlay as poss parents.

I seem to have a split line with two  lots of parents

BUT the George b 1785 seems the most likely as the other parent would only have been 17 - not inpossible or inprobable but I seem to lean towards the older line

I have the line mainly from George Younie 1850, sideways, frontways etc.

 Undecided

Might I suggest you have a look at the Morayshire Heritage Centre, based in Elgin, which has a very informative database. You will find it at : http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp.

HI Julia,
Your Janet b. 1781 is the daughter of John b. 1748 ( most likely in Dundurcas Parish) and Janet Chalmers of Rothes, Morayshire.  John is the son of George Inie of Rothes, who farmed at Overton Farm which is part of Easter Elchies now connected to McCallum Distillery, Morayshire.  This Janet Younie married  John Black and had six children.
My husband, Guy is a direct descendant from John who was his 5 gg grandfather.  I have a great deal of information regarding this family and their immigration to Canada and the US.
Would be happy to share information with you.

Hi Pat

I think then maybe I have the wrong family here LOL. It wouldnt be the first time.

The reason I got this Janet was from her daughter. My Janet married William Siveright in 1797 in Rothes, and I have never found any other information about her, so unless she remarried John Black then I am totally stuck again with this family. And then I searched back through the IGI so probably totally wrong.

As far as I am aware Janet and William Siveright had only 1 child Janet b April 1802 in Boharm. But William did remarry in Feb 1802 before Janet was born (he married Margaret Brown) and i have much information from this marriage. So she could have married again.

If she did remarry John Black i would love to here more from you.
