I am looking for the name of the parents of Thomas Brawn living in the Warrington area, he married Margaret Smith around March 1899 if someone could check the 1891 & 1881 census for me I would be very grateful. I do know that Brawn is not a common name in the area. Thank's, Algy

Hi Algy,
The only reference I can find to a Thomas Brawn in Warrington is one whos Pension records are on a well know site. He signed up in Feb. 1891 at Warrington but was born in Sheffield. He was in the 20th Hussars. The 1891 census finds him at Aldershot aged 18. He was discharged in 1898 but recalled in 1899. He was in South Africa when the 1901 census was taken so he won`t appear on that either. Name and address of next of kin was Father Joseph then Brothers Joseph, James, Martin, Samuel? address Milton Street, Motherwell, Lanark. and written underneath is Anthony (Royal Artillary Older)
On his Reserve papers it lists that he lived at 74 Dallam Lane, Warrington and that his Wife was Margaret and he had two children Annie and Margaret who lived at 3 Orford Fold, Orford, Warrington.
I will have a look for him on the 1881 census.
Regards, Mo

Hi Algy/Mo...think the family mo found is prob the correct prior to birth of Thomas.
Hi Algy,
Struggling to find the family in the 1881 census. However the following is the 1871 census which looks like it could be the right family (minus Thomas).
271 Bright Street, Attercliffe cum Darnall, Sheffield

Regards, Mo
Births Sep 1872 Brawn Tom Sheffield 9c 500
1881 - Both Anthony (1891 Scotland) and brother Martin, (family above on census link), including father James are here. Which if I am correct would make them uncle/cousin to your Thomas.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/03x0/ (view 1881 original image for all family)
Think 2 maybe more brothers, or maybe Joseph was son of James? who originate from Staffs have named children same names. Which is confusing. There is a marriage for Mark Anthony b 1849 to Elizabeth Green 1874, also an additional dau, Martha Ann
Extracted IGI - Parents James & Martha
James Brawn - Christening: 13 OCT 1839 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford Martin Jeffery Brawn - Christening: 13 OCT 1839 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford Mark Anthony Brawn - Christening: 20 MAY 1849 St Martin'S, Tipton James Brawn - Christening: 17 NOV 1844 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford John Brawn - Christening: 22 AUG 1852 St Martin'S, Tipton, Stafford
There is also a service record 1885 (dies 1886) for Mark Anthony Brawn b 1862 Royal Artillery, (Oldham) which would fit with family Mo found. Difficult to read, but looks like next of kin is uncle Mark Brawn, this could mean that Joseph died, and Thomas listed all his kin, not just contact kin?
Will see if I can find any more, when time. Thought if we tried to sort the families out it would become clearer. Hope this has not confused you or mo...
