Clayfield Gloucestershire
« on: Wednesday 23 July 08 03:28 BST (UK) »

Hi there, I am looking for a birth for Charlotte Clayfield in about 1825. Parents names were William Clayfield and Charlotte Hobbs. Not sure what part she is from although her records to Australia said Newmarket near Nailsworth and she was 15 at that point. Any help appreciated. Thank You.

When only a little info is known it's an idea to go to http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp enter only the surname and country and search all records.

One will be given every entry matching the input.  Doing that and using the Windows Edit/search for Charlotte one finds only one entry and that entry is submitted and in Devon.

That does not mean that Charlotte gave incorrect info nor that she came from Devon.  However, there are places named Stonehouse in DEV and GLS but that may be just a coincidence.

It seems that you need to find a bit more info  -how did she get to Oz for instance?

Regards sadly,

Chas

P.S. There's no GLS parish named Newmarket to be found in Parloc - get it from
http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html

Chas

P.P.S.

Have found a, "Newmarket" on a hundred year old map of Nailsworth - go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/  you can search the maps but it takes a while.

Hi Skippyroo

Welcome to Rootschat!  Smiley

Perhaps you could tell us what you know of your family - and what you would like to know?

Is there a Gloucestershire connection, for example?  Do you have death records for the parents?  Is there any evidence that the sons emigrated?

Hoping to help.

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Hi Clocker,

If you send me a personal message I will put you in touch with Jane in Scotland who is also researching Clayfield around the Horsley, Gls. area.

Clocker,

Nailsworth was a rather small unimportant place until about 1790 and it had no church.  You might find the attached interesting.

Regards

Chas

Clocker,

Checking at freebmd - http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl - shows no William C birth registered when you say but there's a William Arthur C born in 1862.

Regarding the marriage of Will. C. I think you should search free bmd.  You may need to buy some certificates to be more sure of your facts.

Regards
