looking for jocksbuchs
« on: Wednesday 23 July 08 16:34 BST (UK) »

Hi again all,
Catching up on place names I have my gt-gt- grandfathers death cert for
Muiravonside and his address is given as Jocksbuchs Muiravonside.
Does anyone have any idea where that might be?
Date of death was 1878.
Have tried Google but without success.
Hope Rootschatters might be able to help.

On the 1881 census there are only 2 families living at Jocksbuchs Muiravonside Stirling. A farm?

Try the above link - a slight spelling variation, but a possible.  Type in the name in the search box then choose the 1864 Stirling map at the right hand side.

A site with excellent  maps is the National Library for Scotland

Many thanks Steve. This has to be the place. I presume it was a farm as gt-gt grandfather is described as "farmer" on the death cert. It's a bit further out than I had expected but at least I have found it. I think that I will probably send for the map as all my family come from the area around there.
Rootschatters are wonderful. Thanks to all who sent suggestions.
Chris
PS No doubt I shall return when next I hit a brickwall!!!!
