George Beare Marriage
« on: Wednesday 23 July 08 21:38 BST (UK) »

George Beare married Eliza Dobbs 24 November 1900 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.

He may or may not be the one I am looking for. Mine came from Cornwall.

Would the name of his father be on the marriage certificate and where will I be able to find it please?

Hi MaryAnn

Do you know what year George was born ? As I found a entry on Find Your Past website.

Beare Geo Year of birth 1869 Dept Date 1890 Destination port Maryborough

For the website just google find your past and search passenger lists leaving UK. Easy site to work with.

Also found the index entry on the Queensland bdm's site. It does not give parents  however on the index. Reg No 1900/C2596.
I am not sure what details are on certs purchased from Queensland but I am sure someone else will be ablt to help you with those details.

A link to the Assisted Shipping record at Qld archives...and there is a facility on the site to order copies of an entry AUD$15.
It is a pdf file - George is listed at the bottom of Pge 71 - aged 21 arriving 13 Oct 1890 on the Merkara - the original listing  may have more info as he was an assisted immigrant.

Hi Maryanne

The name of the parents of both of a married couple should definitely be on a 1900 marriage certificate. Unfortunately there is no online facility for purchasing Qld certificates. You can download an application form.
http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/765.htm

As the marriage is more than 80 years old, you DO NOT need to supply identification information. If the staff argue this fact, refer them to  ministerial correspondence and their own rules and regulations. Takes about 8 weeks to get a certificate (by which time you have forgotten you ordered it, so keep a record of same - folks have been known to order the same certificate twice).

Qld archives provide an excellent, speedy service.

I live in the UK will that make a difference?

George Beare must have been born around  1869/1870.

I will have a look at the links which have been posted and decide what to do next.

I also found

BEARE Stephen John 20 Ophir 14 Feb 1906 IMM/127 491 Z1968 M1706, M1707 on the
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/downloads/Indexes/immi1884_1912/B1.pdf.

Which is interesting as the George Beare I am looking for had a cousin with the same name and he would have been about 20 in 1906.

Decided after I posted to look at the https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m  BMD's and found these births:

  Given name                                                          Father's name
1910/C6615 Beare Thomas Henry     Stephen John Ethel Honey
1908/C6475 Beare Stephen Garnet   Stephen John Ethel Honey

which again is interesting because the Stephen Bear/Beare cousin had a brother called
Fred Garnet Beare and

George Beare has a son called George James Leslie. The father of George who I am seeking was called James.

Hi,
Just so as to avoid blind alleys, the name of George Beare's wife was DoBBs not Dodds.

Snail Mail UK/Australia takes about 1 week - so you can add 2 weeks to estimated delivery times!
I think you used to be able to fax orders with credit card details, but I don't think you can do that any more. I believe the registry do now answer email queries, so you may like to contact them directly with any queries. Things are supposed to be improving - who knows.

The archives answer email reasonably quickly so you can query them as well if you require additional information. From UK the only sensible way to pay either is by credit card - unfortunately, I don't think there are online facilities for this.
