hi all thanks for all the links for the Chester le street district things are a little clearer, the link for searching for deaths will prove invaluable. Thanks for the 1891 census details shows the last male Carr(Newrick) in my direct line with his young bride Elizabeth Cole c1874, Wreckington lodging with the in-laws. I also received the 1901 Census details for Newrick c1871 and Elizabeth Carr c1874, although no ref number or were, kind of finishes completes the line in Census info ;
Newrick Carr 30 b crook (?) Elizabeth 27 b Workington Cumberland Moses 9 b Winlaton James 8 b Winlaton Newrick 6 b Winlaton Catherine 5 b Winlaton Thomas 1 b Winlaton
my great grandmother doesn't quite make the census being born 1901, Elizabeth Jane Carr, whogoes on to marry an Armstrong Bell.
Tati, maybe you could find the 1901 census details for the generation before ? that would really complete my main line nicely,that would be great. Once I've written all this up and done the Free BMD bit (and the kids have gone to bed !!! ) I hope to get going on the Bells, also of County Durham, so there's a good chance be posting again all the best and thanks again Pete

Hi Tati, you really are a Gem ! thank you so very much for all your help, I really do appreciate it My Mum and aunts are following this intently, I have to send everything by e-mail to them as they knew quite a few of the later generation Carrs, many apparently lived to 100 and over ! They all seem to move to Hendon, Middx at some point before WWII and lived next door to each other or in the same house,,,,, but what is so good about all this, is that they are remembering more and more,,,,, a name triggers a memory or something heard from and aunt or uncle, my aunt in Australia has only just told me that there was even a portrait of Newrick hanging over the mantlepiece of Elizabeth Carr( the one not on the 1901 census, c1901) and Armstrong Bell !!!!! can you believe it ! an oil painting ! plus there where others she has told me ! I really must find out what ever happened to them, they must have passed on when I was young as I do remember them, I was born 63 and it must have been before I was 10,,,, but I'm waffling on now I'll keep you up to date with how things go and if I track down the portrait. all the best Pete

hi Tati Could you try and narrow down the deaths a bit?,,,, do you mean those of my gt G pa en G ma ? I've just mailed my aunts to see what they have to say about that, who went first etc, I think that Armstrong Bell lived the longest, so think that the Bell side arranged the funaral ? and the portraits would have gone to that side. No contact with the Bell side from my Mum, so hoping one of my Aunts still sends X-mas cards. Pete
"My dear, I think the English pronounce it 'appiness" ,,,,, losing my cockney accent, although born Hendon, lived Edgware is not exactly Cockney land, but if I hear my brother it does sound like that and now my family say I have a Dutch accent

hi all got a reply from my aunt in Australia, well here is the reply ;
Elizabeth Bell died before Armstrong in Hemel Hempstead, she was cremated, not sure of year, about 1970,71 We went to Aust May 23rd 1973 (plane took off May 23, landed Melbourne May 25) Armstrong died some ten years later in Colindale, son James Bell would have arranged burial. He lived at 19a Hemington Avenue N11. Died 20th Sept 1985 If he had portraits doubt you will locate them Best bet would be Robert Bell at 31 Hardey (spelling?) Road, Hemel Hempstead. Doubt he is still alive but your may locate children ; Eileen Vera Bell, 14/12/1951 Elizabeth " Robert James " Also not mentioned - Bessie Armstrong's youngest daughter - Eileen Vera Bell - age about 5 years at death Something to go on,,,,,, I guess the on-line telephone directory may help ? if they are still in the Colindale area Pete

morning Tati yes Armstrong was born in 1895, so that should be him, a bit of a War hero I believe, WWI and I have been told that he was involved in WWII, he would have been knocking on a bit though ! I've been playing about on Free BMD looking for the children of Armstrong and Elizabeth (Bessie) and found ;
Bell Catherine (mothers name Carr) births DEC 1921 Easington vol 10a page 886 Bell Robert (mothers name Carr ) births DEC 1923 Easington vol 10a page 844 Bell Olive D (mothers name Carr ) births JUN 1928 Doncaster vol 9c page 1276
no sign of Eileen Vera as of yet, also no sign of James ? and am begining to think that Ma got it wrong and there was no James Bell, just a Robert James as my aunt says. Well at least I found 3 of them, although Doncaster was a turn up for the books ? The district of Doncaster spans the Counties of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and West Riding of Yorkshire, what were they doing there ? Well, I'll plod on regardless Pete

yes I should ! well this has got the whole family 'down under' going,,,, getting mail after mail now !
You've got mum going now, she says Free BMD are wrong: Eldest to youngest, according to Mum: Catherine Robert Olive James Which means I have Olive wrong, didnt quite get the Doncaster bit ? According to a card mum had from James' funeral, he was 60 when he died in 1985, that makes his birth date 1925 not 1923 as in the Free BDM data. Robert Bell's children were Eileen Vera, Elizabeth and Robert James
