Look up please.....
« on: Thursday 24 July 08 22:04 BST (UK) »

Hello

Would someone tell us the name and details of those born to George Charman Haines b 1789 and Sarah of Godalmin. We have the name of Harriet b 1830, but that is all. Also when was the marriage and what was her maiden name?

Apart from Mary and Hariet, there are Percy (1827) and Anna (1837); all can be confirmed on IGI.

Hello

Thanks for the replies, however i'm not sure whether Sarah Smith is George's bride. The problem is age , he would have been 36 at his wedding - quite old for those times.

There is another possibility. A George Charman m a Harriet Grinham on 9/12/1817 in Godalminga. I don't know her details or whether they had children. Can someone enlighten us?

Regards

The two births Richard found - Percy and Anna mother was indeed Harriet so looks like you could be onto something. Smiley
Looking at IGI again births are given twice with same father and both Sarah and Harriet as mother.
All census give George correct birth date with wife as Sarah and in 1861 they have a grandson with them. George H Moline born 1858 Wilton Place London, Surrey.

Percy and Anna appear twice in the IGL - once with mother Sarah and once with mother Harriet!! This is not getting us anywhere

This gets weird checking Mary out in 1841 and she seems to fit with the other George born 1793 so I thought I was wrong but then checked 1841 census where George is born 1789 and he is a surgeon with the family is a Alfred Chandler and Chandlers are the family that Mary is with in 1851 Huh

Okay

I have checked all 4 children on the IGL.

The following have parents George Charman and Harriet m 1817:

Mary b Godalming (bap 15/5/1826 - )
Harriet b Godalming (12/2/1830, bap 17/3/1830 – 22/1/1832)
Percy b Godalming (28/9/1827 – 22/11/1828)
Anna b Godalming (17/7/1837 bap 16/8/1837 - )

The following have parents George Charman and Sarah m 1825:

Mary b Godalming (bap 2/12/1825 – 10/2/1902 Bath
m Richard Moline 8/2/1855
Percy b Godalming (28/9/1827 – 22/11/1828)
Anna b Godalming (17/7/1837 bap 16/8/1837 - )

My experience has found that upto the 20th century, parents lost no time in starting a family. It therefore seems odd that George and Harriet did not start theirs until about 7 years after their marriage. If these two are the parents I would expect there to be some born in those first 7 years
