Pre-1837 Marriages - ROWSON
« on: Friday 25 July 08 00:46 BST (UK) »

I am looking for some help to find another couple of marriages for Macclesfield area Rowsons that are not on the IGI

James b 1738 married an Elizabeth b 1738 presumably around 1760

Thomas b 1740 or 1749 married a Fanny (not sure of her d of birth the MI is unreadable) but probably 1760-80 - I think he had a son James b about 1780

Thanks

Hi SC,

Is that the James Rowson who was an Alderman of Macclesfield and died 1793 aged 54 ?

There's a tree on Rootsweb that mentions a marriage of Alderman James Rowson to Elizabeth Worrall.

Hi Shaun

Yes it is that James Rowson to which I am referring and the Thomas I believe to be his younger brother

There is a tree on Rootsweb but unfortunately the tree owner does not have a date of marriage on there but a surname and the Wilmslow area might help us to find the marriage

Thanks

Hi SC

James Rawson (or Rowson) m. Elizabeth Worrall on 6th October 1767 at Wilmslow by Licence
Note: James Rawson (Rowson) of Parish of Macclesfield.

Not found a Thomas marriage to a Fanny yet.  I wonder if Fanny was a pet name for his wife?

These are the Thomas Rawson (Rowson) marriages I found

to Hannah Gibbon 3 Sept 1769 Daresbury (both of Thelwall C.o.P

to Ann Glastin sp. 15 Dec 1776 Stockport - Thos was a silk weaver (doesn't say of which Parish)

to Sarah Ann Plant 1 Nov 1813 St. Mary Astbury Thos was a silk throwster.

I'll take a look at St. Peter Prestbury parish records to see if they are on there.

Kind regards
Su

Hi Su

Thanks very much for the marriage details - that is very helpful
James is correct I'm sure
The Thomas and Sarah one I think is one of mine -  there are several lines I am working on
The Stockport one may be, I think I found that on IGI, but not sure if he fits yet though the silk weaver bit may be a clue

Regarding Fanny it seems to be her real name, it's used on her grave and there's also a Fanny further down one of the lines but I suppose it could br Frances

Many thanks
