Has anyone lost a NEWMAN?
« on: Friday 25 July 08 10:14 UTC (UK) »

 :)Hi.
I am trying to find anyone who may have lost a NEWMAN. My great great grandfather was George NEWMAN, born in 1820/1.
I have him on every census from 1851 onwards, where he always states he was born in Maidstone, Kent, though by the 1851 census he was living in Berwick upon Tweed, where he married Bethiah ELLIOTT.
He died and is buried in Ashington, Northumberland in 1909.
Can some kind person look for him on the 1841 for me...though I have no clue as to his parents.
I do have his wifes mothers name which was Elizabeth ELLIOTT as she was living with them on the 1871 census aged 91. (Though she was born in Rothbury Northumberland).Has anyone got a George Newman in their family who appears in 1841 and then disappears?  long shot I know.
Thanks for your time.  Smiley

On the 1841 census they ofter rounded ages up to the nearest 5 so may you need to look at a wider age range as if 21 was rounded up to 25 it would move his birth year back to 1816.

I did find a George Newman in maidstone aged 25 who was a jorneyman tailor but where it records whether he was born in the county it says "no"

The reference is Class HO107; Piece 490; Book 3; Folio 9 page 9

There's also a George Newman age 25 who was born in Kent who is working as a labourer in Chalk in Kent

The reference is Class HO107; Piece 457; Book 2; Folio 11; page 15

Hi

Do you have any details from George's marriage ie. name & occupation of father which may help place him?
