Cant & Riach families

Alexander Cant married  Jane Riach in 1867.  She died leaving Alex with 8 children - he then married Jane's sister Margaret (who had been their housekeeper) by whom he had 3 more children.

Alexander was the son of James, who inturn was the son of another James,  who was the son of Alexander and finally the son of yet another Alexander.

They are not very interesting in their family names - but thats the Scottish naming tradition for you.

Does this sound familiar to anyone

Hi,
I have an Alexander (b. circa 1748 in Urquhart & Logie District)
Son James was married to Ann Duncan
Their son James (circa 1828) was married to Jessie Fergusson.
They had a son (1 of about 10 children) James Alexander (b. 1856, Inverness).

The Alexander Cant you are interested in was my 3x gt grandfathers cousin. They were James Cant 1775-1855 and wife Mary Calder 1776-1857.they had the following children
James Cant 1800-1855
Janet 1803-1872
John 1805-1887
Alexander 1808-1880
Jane 1812-1830
William 1817 no death date.
The Alexander who married the Riach sisters father was John Cant though and not James. here the mix up with names...James' Alexander died young with no children.John Cant was married to Ann Findlay 1808-1871 and had the following children
James 1837-1903
Alexander 1839-1918
William 1842-1917
Helen 1844-?
Mary 1847-?
Ann 1856-1935.
James Cant married toAnn Duncan children
