Help please - Bonnin and Healey - Abbeyleix
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 20:51 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to find out about a Joseph Bonnin, who supposedly (family word-of-mouth) died in Liverpool c.1865, just after birth of son, Joseph Aloysius Bonnin.  Again, via word-of-mouth, his wife's maiden name was Susan Healey (or maybe Healy).  Can't trace his death cert, or birth cert or baptism record of son in Liverpool, but son is in 1881 and 91 censuses in L'pool.  There is a note by their names in some family info saying just '?Abbeyleek, Queen's County'.  Susan Bonnin remarried in 1873 or 4 to a John Ward, and they are in the marriage records in Liverpool - she used that name to remarry, not maiden name.  If anyone has come across them, or could suggest ways for me to search, I'd be really appreciative as I'm just beginning with this and am learning as I go along.  Thanks.

I think they name now in Bonham, and there are still families in Abbeyleix.

Abbeyleix cemetery records;
Bonham Catherine, 53, labourer, married, knapton, 8/12/191

Bonham Joseph, 42, postal worker, single, 8/1/1931

Bonham James, 77, labourer, widower, 4/3/1939

Bonham Mary Teresa, 40, married, 8/12/1942

Bonham John, 56, labourer, married, 12/1/1944

You could also try Abbeyleix Heritage center (abbeyleixlaois[at]eircom.net)
and they might be able to help.

Bonhams still have a garage in Abbeyleix, so that is worth a try

John Bonham is a local councilor and I'm sure could be contacted thru Laois County Council website.

Jack.

Thanks - will follow up on that - in the record of Susan's remarriage it is spelt as above, but I know spellings can change or be written down differently.  Best wishes.
