Hi M
i'm sure that there are others who will be able to look up your Mary - if not I'll do it but have you seen that the IGI, www.familysearch.org , has the birth of a Mary Mann on 31 May 1870, Kirkinner. Mother - Agnes Mann

Wow Gadget!
Many thanks for all those extra look-ups. The 1861 look-up is an especially great bonus. There's lots there for me to get my teeth into - and the strong Stoneykirk connection has potentially given me extra lines to pursue.
Thanks again. Best regards, M

Without Autumn there would be no Spring....

This may or may not be of relevance. My grandmother was born in 1883 to a Jane Williamson in Stranraer. On her birth certificate it stated that she was illegitimate and her name was Helen (or Ellen) MANN Williamson which was rather strange. Jane's occupation was domestic servant - unemployed. The family had moved to Stranraer from Stoneykirk at the end of the 1870s. Jane also had another illegitimate daughter (Mary Williamson) in 1880 also born in Stranraer.
It would be interesting to know where Jane was working during those early years of the 1880s.
They also had strong connections to Ireland.
