My Jennings family in Docking all stem from one man Samuel Jennings born abt 1771 He married Elizabeth Davy on the 20 Jan 1797. His children were all born in docking, Norfolk. As he is the head of this branch and there were no others would the parish record of his wedding state from which parish he was from. I'd like to get further back with this family but until I can find out where Samuel was born. I'm stuck! He died in 1811 so doesn't show on any census. Anybody got any ideas as to what to do next?? I would appreciate any help. Thanks Angela

Hi again Anjo
As you know his date of death you could look at wills and Manor Court Records. I cant remember if I looked at wills for you but if he didnt leave a will he could appear in the Manorials, these records often say where someone came from.
Marriage registers at this time will tell you if he was of some other place but if he had lived in the village he married in for three weeks before, he was "of this parish" if he was married by licence that could tell you lots more information.
Checking the original registers is the only way to be sure that you are not missing something. who were witnesses? They could be a very important piece of the puzzle. Did the baptism registers say anything?
There are sometimes other documents too, Settlement Certificates, Parish Releif, Inclosure Awards etc etc they all could tell you more about your ancestor.
Best of luck
