Is anyone able to help me with a bit of information
we have a birth certificate dated June 1917 that gives the place of birth as 135 Northgate Street Great yarmouth and mothers residence 5 weeks later as 105 Arundel Road, Yarmouth.
The word passed down the family was that the birth was in a Convent or something and i was wondering if anyone could tell me whether 135 Northgate Street in 1917 was a convent or just private residence and same for 105 arundel rd.
Is anyone able to help

Hi Pigginnut On the 1901 census its just a normal house, occupants William T England and family, and going by who lives in the street would have said they are just normal town houses ricky
P.S Arundel Road is only a short distance away from Northgate Street

I knew the street well in the 60's. They were mostly domestic houses. But it was not a posh area, so quite possible for a little discreet help...

My Tooleys are one of my brick walls. I'm linked to Elizabeth (gggg grandma). 1813 whose father was Edmund 1794.

Hi Teresa, There was a home for unmarried mothers on Northgate Street in the sixties, right opposite a small church, St. Pauls I think and Arundel Road was minutes away. The home was also called St. Pauls! Hope it some help. Joy

Hi Pigginnut..don't know if this might interest you..the photo below(taken this morning)is of the location where 105 Arundel Rd originally stood..a local resident who i spoke to this morning told me that the original houses were bombed in the war..the number of the house in photo is 104 and the street nowadays is totally residential as far as i could see.
