If you go here, Lizzie, you will see Northgate St.
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=northgate+street&countryCode=GB#map=52.60772,1.72944|15|4&loc=GB:52.61476:1.72738:17|northgate%20street|Northgate%20Street%20(A12),%20Great%20Yarmouth,%20Norfolk,%20England,%20NR30%204
Can you see King Street to the south? That's where the rows are (indeed some of them still are).
So about half a mile away.

Added - I see the link is not perfect, but if you move down the map and zoom in, you'll see Row 111 House - the museum of the Rows.

Thanks Meles.
My g.gran's first husband, a fisherman, lived at The Row 112 at the time of his marriage. I haven't a clue who his parents were (not my ancestors of course), but I did a quick search and the only possibles were in the workhouse.

Well, by chance Lizzie, you now know to within a few yards where he lived!
Some of my lot lived in the Rows and were fishermen, and sadly all too many ended up in the Workhouse. Which - another coincidence! - became Northgate Hospital.

Meles - Going up to Norfolk and Suffolk next week. Even though apart from my g.gran's first marriage and where her first daughter was born (my half great aunt!), I don't have any connection to Gt.Yarmouth, but it looks as though it might be worth a visit.

Lizzie
I spent every Summer holiday there as a child staying with my aunt. I remember it was always sunny and every day was completed with a knickerbocker glory bought by my aunt.
May your trip be as happy!

I know this is a bit late, but I just came across something and remembered this discussion. According to http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Yarmouth/Yarmouth.shtml
"From 1904, to protect them from disadvantage in later life, the birth certificates for those born in the workhouse gave its address just as 150a Caistor Road, Yarmouth"

Hello,
I don't know if its of any relevance or interest, but my great grandfather and great grandmother (Arthur and Voilet Jefferies ran the workhouse/hospital. They were born around the turn of the 20th C so I imagine they had involvement after the 20s, but I don't know exact dates. My mum might have relevent photos somwhere...
