Thanks for the reply I am new at this.
I have traced them in the 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census. I am looking for help in the 1851 and 1841 census. the names have been changed in Ancestory.com on the 1861 census, it was Thomas Boncall. I would like to find people that have these relatives in there family trees so I can expand on my tree also to find some living relatives.

Hi Greg, It looks as if Thomas Bonser jnr born 1855 is mistranscribed on the 1901 census as Thomas Herbert Bruser - living at 193 Nottingham Road, Ilkeston. Paulene P.S. If you look at the BT phone books on ancestry there were definitely Bonser's still living, and may still be, in Ilkeston fairly recently. ADDED: I thought the name Bonser was familiar - my grandfather divorced and remarried, and the new wife's sister was married to a Frank Bonser from Ilkeston. They did have a son, called Frank, who joined the Sherwood Foresters (my father's regiment - they were friends) Frank was posted to Thailand in WW2. He sadly died of dysentry, and he is rememberd on the memorial at Trowell Church. They lived at 2, The Forge, Trowell.

Hi Greg, First to help you get to know the area, and how it changed, here are three maps, 1860s, 1880s and early 1900s - you can then compare them with a new one off the net. I've just checked on rootschat and I think/hope it's ok to put a section on for you. Will answer you question re checking forwards in the next post. Paulene

Greg, It is possible to pay a fee to view information from the 1911 england census provided you can supply a specific address:
A successful challenge under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act has resulted in that from January 2007 The National Archives (TNA) has been providing an address search service on the 1911 census. Researchers are now able to pay for searches in the census from the TNA paid research service at a cost of £45 per address search. Personally sensitive information (eg Infirmity column) will be redacted (i.e. blacked out) from the census information given to the recipient. Please note that until the census is fully digitised searches can only be made using addresses and not surnames, and applications for searches must be made using the special online census search request forms available on TNA's web site. Full details on this plus the application form are available from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911census/?homepage=news
However, I think there might be a better way forward for you. I believe that the Ilkeston library has an index with suranmes (including all sorts of information like newspaper obituaries, articles, etc) AND I seem to remember that the names extracted from the 1914 Rates Book for Ilkeston are in this index - so you should be able to find an address for the Bonsers, Knights and Bradleys living in Nottingham this way. http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/local_studies/local_studies_libraries/local_libraries/ilkeston/

Rootschat has a policy not to give out information on living relatives, for obvious reasons, but there are several threads which give useful information about tracking them down. Here is one: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,261434.0.html
Had a look this morning (+ rang a relative living in Ilkeston) but, it's difficult to help you trace forward as there are so many Bonser children born in the area after 1900, and it's a problem to know which are your family's ones, without access to certificates. However, please feel free to ask us all for help with tracking back, or for knowledge of the area. There are some lovely photos on the following site: http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/

Hi Greg, Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you - had a problem with the computer and had to shut it down - hopefully it will behave itself now. The sections are meant to show the same area of Nottingham Road down to the Gallows Inn and Erewash Canal. After that point it changes to Nottinghamshire and becomes Trowell village. If you go on to google maps uk and type in 'roberts street ilkeston derbyshire' you should get a similar view of what the area looks like today. To view the maps on the post click on the writing under the left corner of each map and you should be able to open up the attachments and enlarge them. (hope this makes sense). I couldn't post bigger maps because of the restrictions on file size and copyright issues. Hope they are still OK for you. They are maps of the area in 1866, 1880s and early 1900s and show how the area changed from very little housing to a developed area, with its own community. Your ancestors would have all lived in this part of Ilkeston. When you look on google maps you will see that this area of Ilkeston is a fair distance from the main part of Ilkeston, where St.Mary's church and the market place is, at the top of Bath Street (the main high street running through Ilkeston). Anyway, will leave you to have a look, and catch up with you tomorrow. Paulene P.S. Hope Carol won't mind me telling uou - FWK is framework-knitter (stockener).
