Is there an online source of parish registers (or extracts) for Churchdown. My main interest is the mid 1700s.

At http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(A-M).htm#C you will find that the LDS has extracted the data from the Churchdown church records.

From experience I can confirm that the LDS extraction accuracy is very good but the batches which were once fully comprehensive have had some items deleted, so one must cross ones fingers and hope Cheesy

Thanks, Chas. I'll check the link out. As for the picture, taken about 1865, the definition is extremely poor. I have done some enhancement on the forum for others, but I don't think the picture of ggg uncle John would lend itself to improvement. It is not an original copy, so I don't know what it was like in the first place. Might have a go when I've nothing else to do.

As the HW site is not available, use the procedure at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/FindingBatchNos.html to find a batch number for info. extracted from your particular parish's records.

Then go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true enter the particular  surname, region's details and batch number then hit the search button.

You will be given the info you could have found had the HW site been available.
