John Dowd of Clongesh
« on: Monday 28 July 08 22:27 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I am researching the family of John Dowd, born abt 1818 and married Margaret ? , they lived in Co. Longford, Parish of Clongesh and the Townland of Cahanagh. I have been able to narrow the land to Property # 9 on the Griffth’s Valuation. At the time of the valuation, Margaret Dowd is listed as the Head of household.

In 1847, John and Margaret had a son John who married Margaret Hughes in 1872.

They had the following children: John and Margaret b. 1874, Elizabeth  b. 1876, Thomas b. 1882, Denis b. 1885 ( my grandfather ), and  MaryEllen b. 1889.

John Dowd married Mary Doherty in 1921. After this date, I have no other information.  I also do not have any information on Thomas or MaryEllen.

Thank you for any help with this, Ed

If you are looking for recent details on the family they will probably not be found online unless a relative just happened to have a family tree or website somewhere. Church records may have details of the family and you can check LDS catalogue (www.familysearch.org) to see if they have been microfilmed but more likely to still be in local custody and possibly restricted.
