Free AVG email is not active-Help

Hi Folks,I'm in trouble again,this time I've installed AVG free 8.0,it was running great until yesterday,everything is active apart from email scanner I can not get it to become activate again.I've been on AVG web/site & really did not find that of any use-the only thing I can make out is that this may sometimes happen after a up date,but how do I make it active again?Hope someone can HELP please,Regards Nipy

You need to right click the AVG icon in your System Tray and select Open AVG User Interface.  A screen with a list of active or inactive items should be listed.

If the Email Scanner iten is showing as inactive the click it.  On the Email Scanner Component screen there are 3 options down the bottom in the Email Settings section.

I have 2 of them ticked:

Scan incoming messages X
Scan outgoing messages
Display notification window while email is being scanned X

Hi back again,when email scanner component window is displayed,scan in coming messages is ticked & stays ticked, but the notification while email is been scanned Will not staying registered -have pressed save changes-but still no good.

The actual email scanning process is:-

avgemc.exe

Open Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete and click on the Processes tab.

Scroll down and see if you can see AVGEMC.EXE listed.

If you have another program like Zone Alarm firewall running it might be preventing avgmc.exe from running.

Scrolled down & can not find AVGEMC.EXE listed ! Do you think I should remove AVG & start all over again? but will this kept happing I wonder, when it up dates.Thank you for your patience & help Downside

Let's try something else first.

Click on Start >> Run

in the dialog box type: services.msc and then press the OK button.

A window should appear listing services and their status.

Near the top of the list there should be an entry for:

AVG8 E-mail scanner

What is the status?

The status should be Started.

Startup Type should be Automatic

If the service is Stopped then click on the entry so that it is highlighted and then right click it and select Properties.  Change it to Automatic.  Also click on Start the service on the left hand side.

If you do not have an entry in the Services Window then try reinstalling AVG8.
Make sure you remove (uninstall) it first and then reboot your computer.  Use Windows Task Manager and make sure there are no processes beginning AVG running before you reintsall.

Hello again,Done what you said ,the status had nothing on it ,so I followed what you told me & when I pressed start a window came up with the following message-AVGfree email scanner services stop automatically if they have no work to do,for example the performance logs & Alerts service.-So what would you advise me to do now ? Take it off & reinstall ?

The main thing is to make sure that it automatically starts each time you boot Windows i.e. the Startup should be changed to Automatic if it was not on that already.

There is no point reinstalling AVG as it looks like the email scanner component is already installed.  All you need to do is change its Startup Type status with the instructions I mentioned in the last thread of this topic.
