I am doing a single parish study of the genealogy of Cabrach which was split between Aberdeenshire and Banffshire. Anyone with links to this parish please get in touch (with requests or with information).

I have a branch from Cabrach.  Mine in Cabrach were Grant, Gordon, Kellas and a few others.  My gg grandfather Peter Grant married Jane Gordon in Cabrach 1830.  They came to Australia in 1839.

I'm just starting to look for the family members who stayed in Scotland.

Peter Grant, along with his wife Jean Gordon and their four children, plus his cousin Margaret Souter and her husband James Grant left Plymouth, England on 17th December 1838 on the barque “The Alfred”  and arrived in Australia on 16th January 1839. The 2 youngest died on the voyage, as well as Margaret and her newborn child.
Their ancestors as follows:

              /John Grant
          Robert Grant  (b. 10 JUN 1770; d. 5 FEB 1848)
          |   \Isobel Grant
   Peter Grant  (b. 14 NOV 1807; d. 21 JUL 1868)
   |      |   /Peter Gordon
   |      Janet Gordon  (b. ABT 1780; d. 3 JUN 1858)
   |          \Elizabeth McKenzie
9 Grant children (b.1831-1849)
   |      /Paul Gordon  (b. 1732; d. 1824)
   Jean Gordon  (b. 12 FEB 1808; d. 18 MAY 1892)
       |                       /Alaster Kellas
       |             /Alexander Kellas  (b. ABT 1707)
       |      John Kellas  (b. 19 FEB 1727; d. 19 JAN 1791)
       |      |      \Janet Fettas  (b. ABT 1705)
Anna Kellas  (b. ABT JAN 1765)
              |      /Charles Stewart
              Margaret Stewart  (b. 12 NOV 1727; d. 19 JAN 1785)

I'll get in touch off-topic and send you a list of a few thousand descendants, along with more details and sources for these ancestors.
We have common ancestors in John Kellas & Margaret Stewart.

Hi Stuart

I also have a link to Cabrach, Mary Kellas (my Greatx4 Grandmother) born 1788 in Cabrach, first married to William Robertson (my Family name), children Jean and James. I have no further information about the Kellas Family. I was lucky enough to find a distant relative in the US who had researched our family tree for the past 20 years. I would be interested in any information about Mary Kellas and her family.

Many thanks, Angela

Mary Kellas 1788 is my 2nd cousin (5xremoved), which makes you my 5th? cousin.
A couple of days ago I put some of my Cabrach research onto my website at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stuartpetrie/
I'll get in touch off-site to give you a few thousand Kellas descendants.
Cheers, Stuart

Hello Angela.

You must be related to me as well, however I have no idea what sort of cousin (?) you would be.......Stuart will know though, I'm sure.

I love this Cabrach research...it is so interesting to me.

If you're planning to visit the Cabrach, Aug 16th is the date of the annual church service at Upper Cabrach, and there should be a sprinkling of other Kellas descendants, and other genealogical tourists most of whom will be more or less related.
I'll be coming from Aberdeen.

I'm in Brisbane Australia, so I won't be there, but it is the first place I will be going if I ever get overseas.

Stuart..................could I be very forward and ask if you get any photos, could you send me some.  I can send my email address if you don't have it.

I'd love some pictures.

Thanks.

Researching Cabrach to tie together the Scotts, Sheeds, Gordons, Sievewrights (glass), Smiths  - Blackmiddens and Blackmiddens; Souters - Nether Howbog and Buck; Davidsons from Bogend, Blackhills, , Cabrach-Rhynie etc. Stuck on details re. recent connections with Gordons- Auchmair and Castleton of Kincardine, Fettercairn.  Also Yeats and Emslies that went to Iowa, USA, and Stephens who were at Mortlach Manse in 1950's. etc. Busy stuffing my paf file.
Well I know I am related to everyone in and from the Cabrach, but where did the Scotts come from before 1670?Huh

Hi Michael
If you look at my website at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stuartpetrie/ I have managed to put on, as a separate link, all the biographical notes associated with each individual in the database. Still missing is a proper record of sources and the notes asociated with them.

For the Souters you may want to look at the Diary of John T. Duncan on the website - his mother was Jean Souter b 1820 at Buck.
I do have some descendants for Peter Sieveright Scott & Jessie Stuart Smith of Blackmiddens, Rhynie - if you get in touch via the e-mail address on the website then I can send them to you.

Wow Stuart

Thanks very much for all of the information, very kind. I may well try to visit Cabrach 16th August for the Church Service. It's really strange, my Uncle (another Robertson) has just moved to Monquhitter, after living his whole life in Newcastle. Looks like he has moved not too far from his ancestoral home!! My Mum still has family that live in Aberdeen (Robertson's) but unfortuantely they have lost touch since their parents died, such a shame.
