Looking for first name of Mr Goddard
« on: Thursday 07 August 08 11:35 BST (UK) »

My wife is trying to find the first name of her grandfather he died around 1930, 30 years before she
was born. He married Kate Harriet Convoy.
This is what we know from Freebmd, Kate Harriet Convoy March Q 1907 Romford 4a 631, but
Goddard is not shown on that page my wife thinks his name may have been Henry, but is not sure.

Thanks for your help

Regards

There's a likely birth:

Henry Harris Goddard
Jun 1880 Romford 4a 243

Possibly this boy in 1881
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=4837073
RG11/1723 107 48

bearing in mind that Barking is in the right registration district and that there was another Henry Harris Goddard born in 1850 Romford district who could well be the father ...

Hi Tati,

Well what can I say, thank you that's fantastic.  I was not looking into my wifes mothers side this only came about because of a death of a Convoy last week who was 86 and her son has a large collection of old photos with names on the back which he is going to have made into a book.

Interestingly the Callison family which I am trying to research were mariners and fishermen at one time in Barking, but we have been stuck for about four years now.  We are trying to prove the family rumour that they may have come from Denmark or nearby.  Unfortunately every census shows the family but the persons we are looking for are always missing, maybe at sea.  Only on the 1851 census we have found a Callison who gives his place of birth as The Cape of Good Hope, South Africa which would have been around 1818, the last place we have them is Tynemouth, Northumberland in 1842.

Thanks again,
