William Walker 1843
« on: Friday 08 August 08 09:19 UTC (UK) »

If there is anyone who can help me piece together a brick wall.

I have a William Walker born 1843, in the 1891 census living in Brislington Somerset with wife Ruth, working as a Farm Baliff.  According to the 1891 census William was born Crothnaile, Westmoreland.  At this moment in  time I cannot find a birth, marriage or death of William.  Maybe someone in Westmorland can give me a clue who has 'Walker' in their family tree.  This is the only information I have to go on he is not on the 1901 census.  Please can someone help.

Hi jcsk,

Reckon this could be him in 1881? In Warwickshire too, where Ruth was from according to the 1891 census:

Thank you for your findings as it will help put the picture together but it would be nice to know when they got married and where.  Ruth Craddock his wife was born in Gaydon, and is my great grandmothers sister.

Hi
You may have made progress with this since Tati found the 1881 for you.  His birth place is Crosthwaite, Westmorland.  I have a fiche of 1813 -39 BMDs in that parish if you get back that far.  I cannot find a baptism for him but from all census records he is born later than that.  As he is single in 1881 and so is Ruth the marriage must be between 1881 and 91.  Not too long a search of the index needed.
