Well a trot around Sudbury cemetery didn't reveal much I'm afraid. I couldn't find anything for William Jones and Emily Sewell, not saying they couldn't be there as like many tombstones today, quite a few were unreadable.

I did find one for a Jacob Jones and his wife Rachel, couldn't read when they died, again obliterated.
Could they yours, if so I did take a photo.

I ran out of time, plus the heavens opened, to visit St. Gregory, but hopefully will do that Saturday, again weather permitting.

Hi Sue,

Thank you so much for that.

Obviously that is not the original stone because if it was, Charlotte's name (died in 1828) would have  been inscribed on it before James's who died in 1839.  Whilst I am delighted that their memorial still exists and is still readable, I must confess to be a little disappointed that the original stone is not there.

In Sarah's will made out in 1850 she states that she wishes to be buried in the family vault in the churchyard St Gregory's, 'Where my said late husband and several of our children are interned'.  I had hoped that the memorial would reveal who those 'Several' children were and when they died.

Thank you once again.  (Got your message about Charlotte's marriage)

Dave, the original may well be still there, but three quarters of the monuments are unreadable.
I have one idea, I am sure the Suffolk Record Office has monumental inscriptions on film and if my memory serves correct for St. Gregs the positions of the monuments in the churchyard was noted. Its worth a try to contact them to find out.

I don't know if this is anything to do with your family, but found it on the side of a building in Kings St. Sudbury.  Its a bit blurred as it was quite high up and I had to zoom in.

Hi Sue,

Thank you for those Photographs.  I am not certain whether the plaque has anything to do with my Sudbury Jones's but there were certainly 2 of my Thomas Jones's residing in Sudbury in 1816.

I think that such plaques usually denote when a building was built rather than whose house it was but Jones Builders in North St Sudbury was owned by my ancestors so perhaps they built the property and decided to do a bit of advertising 'on the side' (lol).   Grin

Thanks again, have a good Christmas.

Dave.

Yes it would denote who built it. I thought it was in a strange place, on the right hand side wall, around the corner in the photo and very high up. I don't know what made me look up there and can't say I've noticed it before.
