Loughrigg, Ambleside address wanted.
« on: Tuesday 12 August 08 18:41 UTC (UK) »

My great, great grandfather Henry Staveley was born in 1796 at -
"Edinbergh" or "Edinburgh" or a similar name,
              Loughrigg,
              Ambleside,
              Westmorland.
I know where Loughrigg is but can anyone help by telling me exactly where "Edinbergh", "Edinburgh" or "Edenburgh" is. Was it a single house or a hamlet ?

Ken.

Hi
I have looked on my copy of the early OS map but cannot see a house or hamlet of that name near Loughrigg.  Have you tried online maps?  Kendal record office may have a very large scale map.

Loughrigg was (still is!) a very small hamlet. I suspect "Edinburgh" was the name of the house. With any luck, it will still be on the house.

Edinburgh appears also to be a small hamlet.I have ancestors who lived at Ellerigg and then Edinburgh comes next on the 1881 with about twenty five addresses  using that name

Edinboro and Ellerigg rd are a area on the north eastern edge of Ambleside near the Kirkstone Road but why Loughrigg is on the address i dont know because it is on the western side of Ambleside
