I was trying to find him on the 1841 census but none of the names I read into that cert were returning any hits.
His name appears on the Cambridge marriage cert from the Parish Church in Milton

Champnes fits the details on the cert - many thanks, I've now found him on the 1841 census.
I'll keep a note of that clergy database to retry later - looks usefull.
