Mylett/Mylott
« on: Wednesday 26 January 05 19:41 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to trace a Martin Mylett from Galway (IRL) born about 1828.  He married a Mary (born 1831) and emigrated to England - Burtonwood Lancs around 1857.  They then went on to have a family consisting of Winifred, Margaret, Ellen, James, Mary and Martin.  His occupation was a farm labourer.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Andy,

If you're looking in occasionally as a guest have a look at the Co. Galway 1855 Griffiths valuation extrracts on John Hayes failteromhat.com website as eleven Mylotts are listed. There's only one Mylett listing ...Henry Mylett, Newcastle Road, Rahoon. Galway.

What denomination were your Mylett/Mylott ancestors? You'll probably have to try the Church register route for some information about his family as there were no Civil records in Ireland until 1845 when Civil Registration of non Catholic marriages was introduced. It was another seventeen years before all BMDs in Ireland had to be registered by law.
