Hi

If you had family in the Whitehaven pits or are just interested, there is a wealth of information here.

Technical pages on development of mining methods/ equipment.

The individual Whitehaven pits, history and photographs

The disasters: Sadly, loads of names of men killed in the Whitehaven pits,
stories and memories from locals,
maps and stories of how the events unfiolded.
Detailed accounts which really bring home the enormity of the effect on individuals and the town.

Some extra information on individulals.

The mining Museum and Retoration Projects.

Well worth a visit.

By the way, remember that the Durham Mining site covers mines all over the country  including West Cumberland.  There are lists there of casualties. (Already on this board)

This one gives a lot more about the local situation and circumstances and the individuals involved.

Have a look!
