You don't know what district in Stockport by any chance. It might help to narrow it down. Doggy

Wybunbury isn't very close to Stockport so it might be a coincidence! I assume you've found him on census records stating born in Stockport?

There is a Richard Moss baptism recorded at Mottram in Longendale, Cheshire (not far from Stockport) in the year 1811, parents Daniel Moss & Mary (per Family Search Labs).

Three Brothers Knight out on the road...almost!
|
Hi
It does seem a bit odd to say Stockport although it isn't that far away. you can see on this map ... http://www.chester.anglican.org/diocese/links/
Perhaps he as born in stockport but baptised in Mottram. Or born and baptised in mottram and moved over to Stockport very young?

Astwood - I'll ask my OH to check his records for you to see if he can find any other baptisms or births. He has microfiche records of all Stockport area baptisms and maybe marriages and deaths, but I'm not sure about that. It might take him a day or two as he is quite busy at the moment.
His 3 x g.grandmother was called Susannah Moss and she married his 3 x g.grandfather in Stockport in 1795, so too early for Susannah to be a sister of your Richard. All their children were apparently baptised in Stockport, but when my OH looked at the microfiche (and IGI) they were baptised in outlying villages, which were in the Stockport Parish, even though up to 12 miles away.

Hi Astwood
My OH has searched the microfiches he has, (I thought he had all of the Stockport and district ones but he hasn't), but he cannot find a Richard Moss at all. He says there are quite a lot of Moss families in Mellor (which is fairly close to Stockport) and Glossop - but Glossop is Derbyshire.
There is a Richard Moss baptism recorded at Mottram in Longendale, Cheshire (not far from Stockport) in the year 1811, parents Daniel Moss & Mary (per Family Search Labs). Jolyon - My OH also commented that in the 1700s/1800s Mottram in Longendale was a Parish in its own right, so it is unlikely that someone born in Stockport and district would be baptised there. Unless, of course, that is where his parents originated from.

Hi astwood
Sorry, we couldn't be of more help.
My OH is trying to find the parents of his 3 x g.grandparents too. Unfortunately, the 3 x g.grandfather died before the 1841 census, so we can only guess he was born somewhere around Stockport and his 3 x g.grandmother died about 1846 and on the 1841 census, all we know is that although she was living in Romiley she was not born in County.
My OH has ordered some films from LDS to see if he can get anything from those, but I think he was concentrating more on his 3 x g.grandparents children as they seem to have been married for about 8 years before having any children and the first three were not baptised in the same place as the rest of their children.
