Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hello I am trying to track down my g grandfather and wife. His name is Thomas Jones and his wife Jane. In 1881 census they were living 6, Penuel Row Rhymney. His age at that time was 26 as was Jane's.
Thomas was born in Tredomen Breconshire Jane was born in Abersychan.
In the 1881 census it also shows my grandfather Percy William Jones.
I have information on the 1891 and 1901 but I cannot find anything further back.
Any information/help would be just great.
Cheers Avril

This is a possible for 1871, but he is not consistant with age.
1871 - RG10 Piece 5582 Folio 25 Page 2 Top of steps Tredomen Cottage, Llanfilo, Breconshire
Thomas Jones 40 head, ag lab, Blackmore Catharine Jones 38 wife, Llan ? Brecon (possibly Llaneleu / Llanelieu) Thomas Jones 14 son, Tredomen, Breconshire
Possible getting son Percy's birth cert for maiden name to find correct marriage, will confirm his father. There is no real easy way with a common name, to know you are on correct track without confirming.

Hello Cas
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have got Percy's birth certificate and his mothers name is Janet, not Jane as I had said. It was always known as Jane. I am sorry about that.
Anyway unfortunately there is no father named only that some one had put Janet's name in there. At the time of Percy's birth they were living at 6 Penuel Row Rhymney.
Janet was a domestic servant and sorry the Jones get everywhere - her name on the certificate was also Jones.
I have a marriage certificate showing Thomas and Jane(both Jones) married on 27th Dec 1880.
Thomas father was also named Thomas and at the time they were both labourers.
Janes father was named William and he was a contractor.
They married at the parish church in Rhymney.
Isn't it always the same old saying, "If only I had spent more time listening or asking questions when I was younger"
Again many thanks for the information that you have sent.
Cheers Avril

Hi Avril,
Looks like the correct census details for Thomas, prior marriage. I did see the marriage reg for both as Jones .
It looks like Percy was born a few months before they married, so possibly he is the father, he would not possibly be included as they were not married then, see 'father' on link.

Also Jane/Janet can be interchangable.

Good luck with your research
