Hogans in Clydebank??? Census Look up??
« on: Saturday 16 August 08 06:59 BST (UK) »

Hi,

I was wondering whether anybody could do a search for a Hogan family that possibly lived in Clydebank around 1901. Name is

Michael Hogan born c1843-1846 there is possibly an Ann Hogan (born c1886) as his daughter, but im not sure if she is there. I'm not sure exactly of their whereabouts I realise this is a bit vague but I only have family hearsay to really go on, so my apologies. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi thanks Lindy-lou! He was born in Ireland. Also, the spelling may have changed to Hagan. Many thanks for your help. Grin

hi michelle
there are michael hagan's on 1901 census but ages  are to far out to be 1 of your michael's they vary from 1861-1881....
found this entry 1901 England census, ////

Durham, civil parish: Iveston

Annie Hogan  c1883  born Leybie, Durham, dau
Michael          c1842   born Ireland, head
Catherine      c1843   born Ireland, wife
Alexander      c1878   born Ushan Moor, Durham, son
Frank             c1873  born Leadgate, Durham, son
William           c1886  born Lintz, Durham, son

there is 1 Annie Hogan on 1901 scotland census for Glasgow Kelvinside, address 18 Simpson St, annie is entered as age 12  c1889,  born England ,and is noted as "head"...also at the address is Jane Gray age 56 born England, noted as "sister"...

Hi Lindy-Lou,

Thank you. Annie Hogan is my great grandmother, she married Ernest Edward Armstrong 1908 at Easington Durham England, she was 21 which makes her born c1887. But with the accuracy (or lack thereof) in the censuses, that can be + or - 1 year. On her marriage certificate she states her father is Michael Hogan, we believe that he died at easington in 1927 and it says he was aged 84. However, we have no idea of where they came from, only family hearsay that Michael Hogan had worked on ships at one point in Clydebank. Without the 1911 Census, it is quite difficult in trying to narrow someone down. I do know that there was also a Margaret Hogan (married 1912), Mary Hogan (married 1920) and I think though not certain that there was also a son Thomas Hogan (married 1918) They all married at Easington. Both Margaret and Mary state their father as Michael Hogan. Ernest, my great grandfather, was at the North Eastern Reformatory in the 1901 census, his father had died in 1895. That all said, I cannot find a family that fits!!!!  Thanks for your efforts! It is appreciated. Grin

No unfortunately I don't have her mothers name. On www.durhamrecordsonline.com there is an entry for Michael's death. With just a marriage it does make it very difficult....
