What is their address?

I have a census for 1871.
RG10/2767 Folio 6 Page 5.

I am looking for the address for

William Turner 66 unmarr Retired Miller
Harriet William 51 unmarr House Keeper
Harriet Rogers 8 Border.

The only address on the Page is THE RAILWAY TAVERN.

For the 181 census. It's the same The Railway Tavern.
I can't see a whole page of people living there?

RG11/2647 f7 p5

Although on the 1871 it seems William is a Publican, at The Royal Oak.

RG9/1867 F8 P9.

How could a Publican also be a Retire Miller  Huh


I cannot view the census on line now, so unable to check previous pages for address.

Can anyone help me please?

Hi Pettsy

It's quite common for houses in the 1861 villages not to have names or numbers.  I guess because they were small enough for everyine to know where everyone lived, and of course th epostal service was relatively new.

1871 Their address is just Preston Gubbals.  The Railway Tavern just relates to the one household

1881 8 Old Woods, Preston Gubbals.  The Railway Tavern is at 5 Old Woods.

William perhaps was a Miller in his earlier life - maybe that carried more status than being a publican

I am visiting my great aunt on Monday, in Shrewsbury, and I want to give her as much info as I can.
