Local paper records of court cases
« on: Saturday 16 August 08 14:13 BST (UK) »

I have a direct ancestor who served 2 years of a sentence and - according to family legend was allowed out because he was dying?  I know why he went to prison and names and addresses but unsure of the exact year, I have a 21 year sort of gap with the story told.  He died in 1923.

I'd like to know what the local paper was at the time - was it just the Post or would there have been several?  Are any of them online for me to look at or would someone be able to do a look up for me please?

If anyone is able to do a look up for me could they contact me direct for details please?

Thanks

Do you have his death cert?

Have you found him in any census?
He will be enumerated somewhere, even when a prisoner.

I have him with his family at home in the 1901 census and the crime is supposed to have happened after that.

I do have his death certificate for 1923, he died in Union Road Birmingham.

I don't know where you are, but Birmingham Central Library have newspapers to look at.

I'm afraid I have no info. on which papers were printed in Birmingham in the early 1900s.

Someone on here will be able to help!

I don't live in Birmingham.  I'll contact the library and see what the local paper was at the time

Thanks
