Guinin in Bethnal Green 1800's
« on: Saturday 16 August 08 14:35 BST (UK) »

I have an ancestor Caroline Guinen who married James Rodd at
St Jude's in Bethnal Green in1868. Her fathers name is William H Guinin. As
you see there is a discrepancy on the surnames between Guinin and Guinen.
Easily done of course, but I cant find William H Guinin prior to this time. Any ideas

Welcome to RootsChat Merrymoo  Smiley

Have you found Caroline on later census? If so, where and when was she born?  Smiley

Could be, Caroline was born circa 1847 in Bethnal Green, will take note of details and get a look as soon as I can get onto the census, thanks, does it say how old William was then?

Have just added the details. What was William's occupation on the marriage cert, and which address did Caroline marry from?

The same family are Guinn in 1871, William a soap packer, address 205 Green Street

Williams occupation on the marriage cert says packer but the writing is a bit unreadable, the transcriber seems to think it is packer, there's no address on the marriage cert just Bethnal Green, thanks for the census details

Oooh, packer! Sounds good then!

1871
RG10/481 49 15
Bethnal Green
205 Green Street

William Guinn, head, 43, Soap Packer, b. Old Ford
Caroline, wife, 44, b. Spitalfields
Eliza, dau, 17, Packer, b. Bethnal Green
Emily, dau, 14, servant, b. do.
Henry, son, 9, scholar, b. do.
Charles, son, 7, scholar, b. do.
Edward, son, 1, b. do.

Searching FreeBMD, the only marriage I can see is:
Dec 1844 Whitechapel 2 508
William Henry Guinn to Caroline Royffe

(The marriage is on the IGI:
WILLIAM HENRY GUINN - CAROLINE ROYFFE
10 November 1844 Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London

Have a look at the IGI on www.familysearch.org - you'll see Caroline's christening  Cheesy

(and I can post details of her family in 1841 if you want HO107/694/8 33 20)
