Help with a Photo
« on: Sunday 17 August 08 00:05 BST (UK) »

Hi,

Hoping someone might be able to help add some information about the following photo which was found in a suitcase of photo's belonging to my Grandmother.

There is nothing known about the picture but would love to find out what I can, are the women apart of some society, when and where it was taken, looks to be a flag hanging behind the ladies but not sure which flag it is.

If anyone can help or even recognises anyone would be greatful for your help.

Cheers

Nari

Hi Nari  Smiley

I'll put a link to this topic on the Photo Restoration board...that's where a lot of the 'experts' hang out!

For a start, I'd say definitely 1920s, and possibly Australia - that looks like a gum tree in the far distance  Smiley

Thanks Prue,

I was having trouble attaching photo but have worked it out now, was going to place the thread in the Photo board but wasn't to sure if that was just for fixing and restoration.

Thanks Deb D, you can certainly see the faces alot clearer although I still don't recognise anyone, if anyone can help in identifying the flag that would be great.

Union flag in the corner of a bigger flag, looks like a blue ground, so probably an australian flag although can't see any stars on it  Smiley

Thanks Girls,

Since the flag is the Union Jack guessing the photo's not of my Grandmothers side as they were from Germany so maybe it belongs to my Grandfathers side who are from the UK, just need to figure out who they are now.

Cheers

Hi Nari,
I mentioned in my second response that I think the photo was taken in Australia, which would explain the Australian flag and the gum tree in the background - does that fit with yoru family history at all?

Hi Prue,

It do's fit into my Grandfathers side, his Grandparents immigrated to Australia from the UK in 1874 and the family lived around the Brisbane, Qld area in the 1900's, just wish the photo was named, it could be my GG Grandmother sitting in the front row and I may just never find out.

Cheers

If the photo was taken pre-Federation (1901), the big star wouldn't be there for us to see ... because I've been led to believe it was only added to the Australian flag after that date.  Let's see whether anyone else knows something different ... and how good my memory is, today (it was an absolute shocker, yesterday! LOL)
