I've just looked through all the current addresses in Bath Road, Speen on the Royal Mail site but there isn't a Nursery Cottage there now   Undecided

HI B17_Fan

on this 1898 map you can see the Nursery on the right hand side of the page, and the Public House a bit further up the road, and according to the 1901 census they were between them. Coming from the Hare and Hounds there was  Hope cottage , Ivory cottage , Ivy lodge, then a place called Battle followed by Nursery cottages, Speen Hill, Rose cottage. Then came Speen Nursery, and then Speen Lodge

Oh - good morning Ricky.

It was just that I had a list of the addresses in Bath Road up on the Royal Mail site and I was trying to find one that might still have the same name as on the 1901 census.

I noticed that you went off line so I closed the tab  Undecided

Morning Gadget

Looking at a modern map looks like a lot of it has changed, but still keeps some of the old names like Battle close, Speen Hill Close,

Have you been able to work out if it was at the top or bottom end of the road?

Hi Gadget

Reading it on the census sheet and looking at the 1898 map, it go's from the Nursery up to the Hare and Hounds, otherwise right to left, looking at the map Huh

I've got a modern location for Cromwell Terrace which is close to the Nursery Cottages:

In 1928 no 4 Nursery Cottages is shown with (garage) alongside. So it is possible that the existing garage on the Bath Road marks the location of the cottages. It is opposite the site of the nursery. Needless to say the nursery has been built over long ago.

No. My great gran was born in welford in 1896. So I never knew until I got my late granddads birth certificate that she lived in nursery cottages in 1924. I wish I knew how long she lived there. I don't know if there's anyway of finding it out??
