Haven't looked at the page  yet, but if you look at 'view record' at the left of her name you see she is with the Browns and the Champions.

It's page 15 Folio 121 . She's sister-in-law of Edward Champion. Lucy Brown is another sister-in-law.

A right mix up.  Page 15 on the view record, page 17 as you actually see the image, and page 15 on the page.

Tracy

There is also this woman. Ancestry indexes her surname as Monroe but it looks more like Mouse (I'm not joking).

1901 RG13 1190 folio 121
16 St Leonards Road Ealing, Middlesex
Minnie Mo?e 20 Servant Housemaid Todenham, Gloucestershire

The head of the household or possibly his wife would have recorded the information onto the census schedule. The enumerator then copied it out into his book. Only the census enumerator's books survive for censuses pre 1911. All the household schedules were destroyed, so there is plenty of potenital for errors to creep in.

There is no-one else with a birth registration with this surname in the area (Shipston registration district) and certainly not with the name Minnie though that can also be used as well as a pet name.

Births Jun 1882
Mace  Minnie     Shipston  6d 675

and no-one on the 1891 census born Todenham with that surname or the name Minnie other than Minnie Randall. So it sort of begs the question 'who else can she be' if she is not Minnie Mace born Todenham, with an incorrectly written surname on the 1901 census?

Minnie Mace enumerated as Edward Champion's sister-in-law born Bristol on the 1901 census in Hackney and aged 21, may be in Bristol on the 1891 census, when Minnie Mace born Todenham was in Todenham with her parents.

1891 census RG12 1974 folio 119
Mullers Orphan House No 5 The United Parishes of St James and St Paul, Bristol Gloucestershire
Minnie B Mace 11 Gloucester, Gloucestershire
(two younger sisters also in the orphanage)

Births Jun 1879
Mace  Minnie Blanch  Gloucester  6a 288

Her parents (as evidenced from the 1881 census) were

Marriages Dec 1876
Mace  James     Gloucester  6a 526
WARREN  Emily     Gloucester  6a 526

Edward Champion married Mary Ellen Brown.
Marriages Sep 1891
Brown  Mary Ellen     Poplar  1c 995
Champion  Edward     Poplar  1c 995

so no obvious connection, since the Browns and the Champions were all born in London. Since Minnie Mace was a domestic servant there is a possibility that her connection to the head of house is wrongly given by the census enumerator, copied from that of his sister-in-law's entry one above hers, the relationship actually being merely that of a servant like her two younger sisters who were both in Cheltenham on the 1901 census. Minnie may have arrived directly from Bristol and as far as her employers were concerned was from Bristol.

Have you a connection with your Minnie Mace born Todenham and the Champions/Browns which proves you have the correct Minnie Mace in Hackney on the 1901 census?

Thanks Valda.................

minnies birth was the one in shipston in 1882

Nothing i found on the 1901 census made sense as there are no champions or browns in the family to date. I really couldnt see the connection but couldnt find any other minnie mace

then i had problems viewing the page itself and sort of gave up!

most of the mace girls seem to go into service..............by 1904 she was back in todenham and Married a francis slatter, ( no confirmation of him yet exept cross referenced marriage records)

1891 minnie was at home with her parents Thomas and Sarah      rg 12/2485

hope all this makes sense it did once .........i think!! Smiley

Or just a misread by the a very tired census enumerator copying down household schedules.
