Grin I know what it was in Speen.... bit slow tonite.... It's mining machinery, chains etc that were made in Speen then transported out.....

As yours was in mining, perhaps he was there as advisary....
Hmmmmm.... My 'lost' name is Williams.... ah ha... maybe I should look in Wales  Grin

The other...It was on a Scavenger Hunt...

Maybe my gt grandad was sent down to speen to work as a haulier (as in lorries??) for the mine in ferndale (where he was born in glamorgan). That could also be how he met my gt gran, because she was born in newbury. What would be interesting is their marriage cert. I don't have it yet. They married in 1918. It will tell me his occupation on there and where they lived.

The Speen on the abovementioned site, is a different Speen. It is in Buckinghamshire, near High Wycombe, not Berkshire near Newbury.
