Hello-
This is very interesting, in an earlier post from seira dealing with this topic, she said that Ellen Flannery's maiden name was Kilcullen.  This may be the same person that I am looking for.  I had been looking for a Collins family from the Parish of Skreen, Sligo Ireland.  Through some extensive searching (I obtained the church marriage records for Thomas and Ellen and the baptismal record for their children James and Ellen from Sligo, Ire), I learned that the name changed to Collins at some point and the family was actually the Kilcullen's.  My great grandfather is James Kilcullen, he had one sister, Ellen Kilcullen.  They were the children of Thomas Kilcullen and Ellen Rafferty.  The story I was told is that their father Thomas died as a result of an accident in the mid to late 1850's.  His wife re-married a John Nealis.  Ellen Rafferty and John Nealis had five children.  These were the half-siblings to James and Ellen.  I have a copy of a letter that Ellen sent to James in 1886.  It was postmarked in Liverpool and she signed it John and Ellen Flannery.   I would be very interested to get any information regarding Ellen Kilcullen who married John Flannery that I could.  Thank you for your help.

Hello
John and Ellen had 4 children, John, James,  Sarah and Mary.
Mary was my Grandmother.
All the children were born in Liverpool, England.
They are on the 1891 census living in Islington, Liverpool.
Ellen was born c1855/56 in Ballara, County Mayo, Ireland.
I know they went to America but don't know when and I know one of the boys went to Scotland and died there.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

Thank you for the information Seira, however, I don't think this is the sister to my great grandfather.  I really had hoped that it was.  The Ellen Kilcullen that I am looking for was born in Laragh, Parish of Skreen, County Sligo.  Her baptismal record lists her date of birth as June 20, 1853.

Hello Andy

The info I have is John was born either 1856 or 1860 not sure which in Drummore, county Sligo, Ireland.
He married Ellen Kilcurran in 1883/84.
Ellen was born in Ballara, county Mayo 1855/56.
I don't know if they were married in Ireland or England.
They are on the 1891 census as living 59 Birkett Street, Liverpool.
They had 4 children, John, James, Sarah and Mary.
Mary was my grandmother.
A family member tols me that John jnr went to Scotland and died there.
I have no info regarding the remaining children.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes

Hi Andy

There are quite a few Flannerys around the Sligo / Mayo / Roscommon border, and the border was "adjusted" which can often add to the excitement of finding the right townland.  We have established the genetic signature for a number of Flannery families in the area, and you would be very welcome to compare Y-chromosomes (see our website for details of the Flannery Clan Y-DNA Project).

Regards

Hi Seira thanks for getting back so soon. Your g/mother Mary's brother John was my gg grandfather(which i think makes you and my dad second cousins!)I have a copy of Marys birth cert born 13 December 1890 as well as Sarah and Johns but not James as i cant find anything to do with him .John did not go to Scotland as you were told and in fact stayed in Liverpool as did all his desendants. I wonder if in fact it was James who went to Scotland! Also do you know any more about the Flannerys who went to America as my dad told me he heard 2 brothers went but knows nothing about it. Would it be possible to let me know the details of Marys marriage and death so i can fill them in on my branch.. Many Thanks
