Hi Sandra,
I will certainly have a look at the 1861 for you but It might take a couple of days. I have had computer problems and am not set up yet to read the census. Will post as soon as I can get everything back in order again.
Regards Darcy.

Hi Sandra & Kris,
I searched Newnham and Flaxley but had no luck. I did find the Bevan family from Flaxley but just the same as 1851 - children James and Ann - no Harriet - so doesn't look as if she belongs with them.
There are a few Bevans in Newnham but they all seem to be alone as either boarders, servants, or visitors.
Sandra, if you can think of anywhere else I can look for Harriet just let me know. I didn't post the details for the Flaxley family but if you want them I will.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Regards Darcy

How lovely of u to give it a try Darcy Disappointing though it may be.....I really expected this family would be hers but alas not meant to be.....On Checking Glos for Bevans they r just everywhere so unless Sandra has any more to go on I am afraid it will probably not be solved until 61 is indexed. Sandra unfortunately at this stage 61 census is not indexed so to find anything at all requires a huge efford of trawling the parish concerned as Darcy has tried 4 u with Newnham and Flaxley but alas without knowing just where to look I fear the task is hopeless. Perhaps u can locate the birth and then ask Darcy again when u know where she was born...of course if it is Newnham or Flaxley and they have since moved then I am afraid u will be out of luck until the index is available...All the best with it....Kris

Gosh, thankyou both very much for all your efforts, it is so good of you give up your time to look for information for other people. All I know about Harriet Bevan is that in one census she was born in Flaxley and then on another she was born in Newnham. Laterly living in the All Saints area in Birmingham, that being on the 81, 91 and 1901 census's, then married to William Nicholls. I know nothing of her parents or if she had siblings. Myself living in the Forest of Dean, it would have been interesting to know more about Harriet, but alas I guess Iwill have to wait. Once again thankyou, your effort is very much appreciated. Regards, Sandra

Hi Kris and Darcy, Sorry to trouble you, but I have just been following up the lead that you gave me for 1871 census and it appears that Harriet's name was actually Beavan and not Bevan. If it is not too much trouble, could you possibly check out that name. Thanks so much, Regards, Sandra

Hi Sandra,
It could be that Harriet was born in Flaxley/ Newnham Parish. There is also the village of Newnham in Newnham Parish.
I have searched Flaxley and Newnham villages - but there are many more villages in Newnham Parish.
It will take me a while but I'll have a go and search all of Newnham Parish and see if I can find Harriet.
Don't get your hopes up too much, sometimes the writing is just about illegible - but it's worth a try!
Darcy
