It's not that easy to find - ancestry only goes off names - but here you are:
1901

Smokedown Cottages Thrupp
Robert Phillips and family

Henry Puzey/Pizzey  Huh and family

New Smokedown Farm
Alexander Watts and family (who seem to have called one son Smokedown F J Watts  Roll Eyes)

Old Smokedown Cottages
James Hammond and family

Old Smokedown Cottages
William King and family

Amendment:
Jonas Ball  is at Langham's Cottages - - the next entries to S Cottages

This Jonas Ball b 1867 is not Jesse's brother (don 't think) I can't find him in earlier censuse but find others with similar names (Joseph/John) However Jesse's father is Jonas so maybe a relative. Undecided

So it looks as though perhaps Jesse got a job there  Huh

the marriage cert of Jesse ball and Edith mary Boulton would give Ediths fathers name and occupation -and once again witnesses may be relatives

That would at least would confirm Edith mary is the one we think she is??

it's looking good for jesse and Edith to be the crrect couple , don't you think?

Sorry new to this! So am not always sure what information would be helpful. Next time i will post everything at once.

Think we  may be on the right track now with Edith, what a great name Smokedown can you imagine being called that these days. Will definitely see about getting their marriage cert asap.

yes it is best for everything Sarah but in all the info etc things can easily be overlooked.
It is annoying though when we have spent a long time searching for someone to say that they already knew that or had that information.
In your case, it's been more like drip feeding info and hopefully it is coming together.
As Suz says the Edith Mary/Jesse marriage (if indeed they are the right couple) would confirm parentage.
I think the cottage names sound quite idyllic-Pickety Farm Cottage Cheesy-  I'm sure that was not the case!
It's nice that they are still there!

Jesse Ball 16 yrs b Brampton Oxfordshire
with parents and siblings

Hi Sarah

Have we decided that Jesse BALL is one of yours or not ? If he is, that should be Bampton and not Brampton, and I can report that the parish registers of Bampton have been transcribed and indexed by the members of this society and are made available on CD and on microfiche.

In the transcription of the baptism register, we have :-

27 June 1875
Jesse BALL
son of Jonas (a labourer) and Amelia.

I hope that helps.

oops sorry - bad typing skills.
That fits in with 1881 census - Jonas and Amelia
1891 has Jonas and Matilda but the age and pob are same so I would think it is the same woman.

It's odd that 1901 census has a Jonas and Amelia living as I said in the right place - they have the same places of birth as the 1881 and 1891 people but are much younger  Huh

If there has been an error then they would be Jesse's parents and that would make sense re the cottages.

Hello everyone and thanks to you all and for the look up Paul. Sorry to not have given all information earlier sometimes it is hard to know what will be helpful but next time i will just post it all in one go.
Yes Jesse is my relative. Paul could you possibly do a look up for me and see if there is any trace of Florence for me in the parish records i`d love to be able to confirm her date of birth.
Thanks again  for all the help and sorry to be such a pest!

Hi all,

Maybe I've missed something along the way, so apologies if so.

If the Jesse Ball marriage in 1903 is the correct one, and Florencve was born c1897, wouldn't she be the illegitimate daughter of Edith, and been christened as Boulton?

Having said that, after having a very quick scout around, (I have to takle my daughter to the Dr's) I couldn't find any likely canidates!!

Good luck

Hi Paula,
no you haven't missed anything- that's the conclusion we have come to - for the time being anyway.
Unfortunately can't find Florence Boulton in 1901 either nor has the Edith Mary that can be seen got a child with her- frustrating.  I have seen one odd Florence Boulton in a large family where she is the only child who has not got any relationship status but it is a different county and I can't see a realtionship between the two Boulton families  Roll Eyes
keep looking  Wink

I wonder if Florence was with her Grandparents in 1901, although not sure who they are at the moment.

Will keep looking

Thanks everyone,

The only grandparents that her children talked of were the ball family (her fathers parents) where can she be?

Any one any ideas on where to search for her date of birth? Would the bmd indexes be of any use i haven`t looked into them so i don`t know what information they would contain.

I`ll scan in the two photos of her later so at least you can all see what she looked like. I never knew her but my mother was very fond of her granny.

The Boulton family in Buscot in 1891 & 1901 look likely, and I wonder if that's where Jesse and Edith married.

Although I have loads of resources for the Faringdon registration district, I don't have anything for Buscot. Does anyone else?

that's where Edith Mary is so one would imagine that young Florence would be there too ! She may have just been omitted from the census returns for whatever reason - parish records may show something as you say.
