I am trying to put a date to an old photo. Does anyone know the years when a photographers in Mercers Row, Northampton was in business? I have an old photo and the name on it is hard to read, but I think it could be C. Katterns, possibly at no.6 (Mercers Row).
I would be grateful for any information.
Thanks.

Although the writing on the photo I have is difficult to read, it is either C or G Katterns I think. So, as you say, it is probably a relative. Do you know what years the photos were from that you have found in your book? Thanks. Jo

Hi Jo If you are able to scan or photograph your photo, you can post it on the Photographic Restoration board here on Rootschat, where there are lots of people who would be able to give a date for your photo
Here's the link: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,298.0.html
Cheers Prue

According to the 1894 Northampton Trade Directory, Thomas Charles Katterns was residing at 14 Market Square.
I can put this photograph on my own web site if you wish, see http://www.northants-familytree.net

Hi All
Katterns photographers seem to be listed as Northampton from 1864 onwards.
The most noted one is a J Katterns of Gold St and Marefair.
This link has some photographs on maybe an ancestor of a Northants member.

Thanks to Sandy, Alan & Prue. I am having trouble scanning the photo in at the moment, but will take advantage of the tips given as soon as I can.
