Queen Elizabeth 1st pub, Churchgate.
« on: Monday 18 August 08 21:44 BST (UK) »

I have relatives that were born at the above address in 1907 and 1909, according to their birth certificates. I know the pub was in churchgate but that is all I know, would anyone out there be able to shed a little more light on the address for me. I have tried looking up and down churchgate but I cannot see a likely building.

Church Gate used to extend as far northwest  as St Margaret's Church (now called St Margaret's Way).
I wonder if it was in that bit?
I haven't found it on the 1901 census, yet. (Districts 18 to 22 of Leicester NW)

Hi Peter,
I know the parents Samuel and Hariett Popple didn't live at that address in the 1901 census as I have found them at other addresses. Harriet was in service and Samuel lived at the Belgravia Hotel with his parents on the corner of Charnwood street and Spinney Hill road.
So Churchgate was a lot larger than it is now. Hmm could be that it was on the other half then.
Regards

I've tried looking through the 1901 census, but can't find the name of the pub. The enumerator has just put the numbers of the properties. The 1891 is a little better with a few of the properties having names of the pubs as well.
But I still can't find it  Roll Eyes.
Mind you, it's been a fascinating exercise, tracing out where the enumerator went from street to street.
