SCOTT family of Haslingfield

Since I was born in Royston I guess this is my home board but I am having difficulty getting details of the SCOTT line in the family.

Thomas Scott 1765 and his wife Sarah ? 1768
their son David 1789-1840 his wife Susan ? 1796

The family came from Haslingfield and David was a butcher, that is the extent of my knowledge.

I would be most grateful if anybody is able to give me any further details of these generations or earlier (I do know about David's children).

Have you tried the IGI at www.familysearch.org ?

Haslingfield marriages have been extracted and you'll find David's in 1812.

You'll also find his 1789 baptism.

It's odd, but I can't see any other baptisms in Haslingfield of children of Thomas and Sarah, although they don't appear to have died until the 1820s (see burial index on the Cambs FHS website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html ). Their marriage doesn't appear to have been in Haslingfield

The pay per view site at http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ has 4 marriages of a Thomas Scott between 1780 and 1789

The IGI shows a 1785 marriage Thomas Scott/Sarah Gates at Gt Abingdon, which is only 6 miles from Haslingfield. The entry reads 24 Oct 1785 Groom Thomas SCOTT signed with an X bachelor otp and Sarah GATES (X) spinster otp by banns Witnesses Thomas HAYLOCK, William DOCKRELL,

Thank you, David. The marriage seems a definite possibility.

You seem to be having much more success with IGI than I do. As I mentioned it seems to freeze more often than not recently.

Yes, via www.familysearch.org. I have just tried it again and it worked perfectly and gave me both marriages. Strange though how it offers different versions of the entry form at different times.

Of all the lines in my family ( I am trying to find all 32 of my 3xgreat grandparents before I pop my clogs) the Scotts have proved the most difficult. The Scott family web site is reputed to be the largest there is, but I find it no use at all. It has been suggested to me that before one finds many generations the lines all disappear back into darkest Scotland. That did happen on one branch I tried.

My cousin and I managed to find one person on the genealogy sites that shares our Haslingfield Scott ancestors - she won't share her tree or even answer our E-mails. She is the only uncooperative person I have come across and I think the cause may be a hundred year old family feud - is that not stupid?

Thanks again for your help, at least I have a little more to work with. I have a couple of really tricky problems for you, but I'll save those for later.
