I am trying to find info on the family of Thomas Anderson who migrated to Australia in 1862 on ship "Ocean Empress". He was a 20 year old labourer and on the ship's list, it says he came from "Southerhun" Co. Fermanagh. Does anyone recognise the place name? Is it likely that I will be able to find info about him or his family in Fermanagh. His religion was listed as Church of England and he could read, but not write. I am hoping that I could even find death info for his father (also Thomas Anderson) or his mother Ann Anderson (nee Home) or siblings. Any help will be received gratefully. Maxene

Yes, mer - that is the one. I believe his brother George died on the voyage but I have been told that no record was kept of names of people who died on that voyage. Anything I can find out about Thomas and/or his family pre Australia would be FABULOUS! Is Southertown a suburb or locality? I don't recall seeing it written anywhere before. Maxene

Thanks, mer. I notice there is no Thomas Anderson. Would their names be listed if they were labourers? I am very ignorant; I'm not really familiar with the tithing applotment system. Thanks for the link. I'll browse through it myself. Cheers, Maxene
