I have hit a brick wall trying to trace my ancestors on my fathers' side - my grandfather was Ernest Brown but for some reason changed his name to Seacombe, he married my grandmother, but she already had my father (Ronald Desmond Seacombe) at this stage I have no one to ask why he changed his name, I have found the Browns in Chesterton, with districts of Willingham and Fulbourn, I wondered how to go about checking parish records or local papers for any information. I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction Many thanks Jean Healy

Sorry to have taken so long to reply, the dates in question are Stephen Drurey (born 1809) married Frances (born 1816) - the grandchildren (no idea of parents) were Frances, Nellie, William, Alfred, Ernest and Arthur born 1890 ish Ernest was my grandfather and I believe he changed his name to Seacombe for reasons unknown He married Laura Desmond from Sussex, who already had a son Ronald Desmond by person unknown and from then on they were known as Ernest, Laura and Ronald Seacombe (they then had a daughter Phyllis) Thanks for any help Jean

Hi
Stephen Drury father Daniel Drury married Frances Bullen father William Casburn 8th July 1845 Chesterton (Cambridgeshire)
It looks as though Frances was either illegitimate or she had been married before.

We have no information as to where any of the children named were born. Apart from Ernest - we don't even know their surnames which is why I have requested the information shown in my second reply

I missed that, Thanks CaroleW
Looking at the index for 1901 James S Drury is living in Chesterton with a son Ernest J.
I think we will just have to wait for a bit more clarification of the facts that you have requested before we can continue.

I would love to reply quicker, but my laptop is out of action, and the only posts I can make are at work which doens't happen as often as I would like!
The J stands for James, all the children were Browns and all seem to be born in the Fulbourn district of chesterton
Hope this helps and again many thanks for all your help Jean
